Progress!

Lots of great progress to share, but not enough time to write all about it. Check out some photos below for a quick update. Thanks to everyone for all of their hard work and their motivational visits!

Ripping up the carpets on night 2...

revealed...

...beautiful wood floors!

We have done a huge amount of general property cleanup, inside and out. This photos doesn't do justice to the hours of back-breaking labor :-) GIANT pine branches (left), filled yard bags (center), and 1300 sq. feet of pink/beige/peach/taupe/green/ugly carpet. Let's hope the trash man is in a good mood tomorrow morning.

Honestly though, the best part of the weekend has been meeting all of our new neighbors. Granted, they can never rival the Tenth St. gang (who can never be replaced!), but they're pretty swell. Everyone's been so welcoming and inviting, and they all seem relieved that "young people are taking on such an ambitions project..."

...I have yet to decide whether that's a compliment or a threat.

OH, and check out the view from our new neighborhood pub! (where there's obviously important house-work to be done...)

  1. Congrats Mark! So happy for you, can't wait to visit and make some cocktails. And maybe paint, whatever you need. You name it. Within reason.

  3. Hey Mark! Long time no see. Nice place you got there. I'm sure that I've done a few of the home improvements that you're in store for and am glad to see you're ambitious enough to maintain a blog about it. I gotta say, living on a single floor is probably the best and most overlooked feature about a house. Our house is a single story and is WAY more efficient to cool and heat. We still haven't broken $250 for a utility bill yet, even in the winter which is unheard of in Rochester. Also, one thing I would suggest looking into is any Energy Star programs on the federal and state level. Because of my incredibly, dismally low stipend, I qualified for $5000 from NY to pay for a new furnace, hot water heater, fridge, washer, insulation, etc. Anyways, hope you're having fun with your new place. Oh, and happy belated bday.
